Toto – I Think We’re Still in Kansas

We Remain in Kansas Visiting Family

As we approach Scott City, KS at dusk, we are reminded of the beauty of Western Kansas sunsets. There was a storm to the South of us as you can tell with the wind in the clouds, however we were driving into the backside of the storm and had beautiful views.

During the trip from Kansas City to Scott City, we experienced an issue with the cargo carrier & rear bumper on the 5th wheel. Even though the bumper is rated for 350 pounds, it was no match for a 120 pound generator on a cargo carrier. Even though we had installed a hitch anti-rattle device to eliminate rattle and bouncing, the weight of the generator combined with every speed bump on the interstate produced enough torque to twist the bumper. Within the first 60 miles, the carrier was nearly dragging on highway requiring us to remove the generator from the carrier for the remainder of the trip. The usage of the bumper carrier was short lived.

NEWBIE TIP: If you do not have covers over your ceiling vent fans, you should install them so you can run the fans regardless whether it is raining, misting, foggy, etc.

We Installed vent covers on the new 5th wheel. Actually quite easy since the vent already predrilled holes to mount the cover brackets to. Only took about 20 minutes to install, with half of that being time required to climb up & down the ladder to carry parts and tools.

Unfortunately while we were back in Scott City ready to start our journey, my cousin Steve passed away at the young age of 49. We delayed the start of our journey to attend the celebration of his life and spend time with family. RIP Steve – there is no other like you – they broke the mold with you. You are missed.

Time to start the journey …
